Mueller Aviation Hot Wire Foam Cutter 2024
Переглядів 311Місяць тому
Our new hot wire cutter has been named 'Reg' in honour of Reg Ackland who used the same CNC towers/stepper motors but with older software to cut aircraft wings for the student 'Big-wing Komets' back in the day. The new system has a CNC3D controller called a Nighthawk and the software that runs on the user's laptop is called 'Commander'.
Jet Engine test with replacement glo-plug.
Переглядів 2392 місяці тому
See previous video. This is a not so new glo-plug but it burned brightly and kept burning. The KJ-66 Turbine started straight away. Combustion needs a fuel source...check, Oxygen...check, and now we have the lighter. We are GO for engine startup.
Testing the Turbine's glo-plug

Had some start issues. Tested the glo-plug and found it wasn't working. Found an old one which seemed to work...but its life was short.

Year 10 Egg Lofting Rockets 2023
Переглядів 4611 місяців тому
The problem to solve involved lofting an egg higher than 50m but no higher than 80m. Both the egg and rocket had to come back safely. Eggs were put in latex gloves anticipating problems with re-entry. Students designed their rockets in Rocksim and tested them in the Rocksim simulation. Out in the field, it was mixed success. We lost some good eggs...
Proposed Remote ID for Recreational Model Aircraft and Drones - an Australian Educator's Perspective

This is not a rant, rather a discussion about who remote ID would affect and the relationship between model planes and the aircraft industry. There are also some birds thrown in too.
Pelicans Thermalling over Redcliffe Airport
Переглядів 52Рік тому
This flock of pelicans started over to the west and followed the thermal eastwards over Redcliffe (Qld) airport. They hardly needed to flap their wings. Altitude probably around 1000ft, perhaps a bit less...still in class G airspace, the overlying class C starts at 1500. Smart birds!
Lost and Found - No Bixler is Left Behind
Переглядів 50Рік тому
One of our training Bixlers went down in the swamp. It was difficult to find due to the tall reeds and tangled brush. Our rescue party had to also contend with wild pigs and red-belly blacks; that's a poisonous snake for the uninitiated. An International Rescue drone was deployed which found the Bix after using a lawnmower search pattern. The Bixler was returned home undamaged.

Amazing work
Thanks.. I recently moved to brisbane and would love to dust off my old tello and take it out for a spin at this park.
What a wonderful video that was and to see that machine going again I so good. Looking forward for more foam aircraft Mueller aviation.
Wow,wie dieser grosse Frosch mühelos verschwand😲Paarmal schluck und bye ,bye🐸😅😅😅
Interesting it could find that frog hidden in that ornament.
Great discussion ! love the early balsa pics, as a 73 year old now i've been flying R/C / "drones" since 1971, it's been very disappointing and obvious since 2010 that our recreation/ sport/ hobby has been coming under increasing attack and demonization from politicians, regulators, media and industry lobbyist, this has culminated in myself and friends being barred from our favorite flying site in 2019 after many years of 0 incidents, after i complained i was told my aircraft endangered Manned aircraft that use the area, now they are proposing we complicate and very possibly compromise our aircraft by fitting a RID device so we can be surveilled, has nothing to do with safety when we already have rules of separation, nice to see you have at least some areas being set aside for recreational flying in QLD a much different paranoid mindset here in NSW unfortunately.
Love the photo on your channel of the maggie chasing your tail. They will take your head off! Terrified of the buggers during nesting season. We have such a great hobby. So much joy over so many years. I'll be teaching my grandson to fly when the time comes.
Amazing it’s simply rocket science
You're right that we've reached/passed "peak drone" (and that includes RC model aircraft). One only has to compare the views on UA-cam videos that are RC/drone focused today compared to the same genre of video five years ago to see this. The advent of cheap, reliable RC and FPV gear and the flood of Chinese-made RTF/ARF/PNF floamies saw a massive boom in the market from around 2013 through 2017 but since then things have stagnated -- largely (I believe) because of the imposition of unjustified regulation and restriction. Some countries have even introduced age barriers to the hobby. For instance, in the UK you must be at least 18 to qualify for an "operator ID" and all craft over 250g must have an operator ID on them. This means that a 16-year-old must either fly illegally or find an 18+ year-old willing to become the registered "operator" of their models. Likewise you have to be at least 13 years old in order to register as a drone/RC operator in the USA -- leaving unsposored kids 12 or younger with no way to fly legally. If we can't get kids interested by the age of 12 then we may never be able to convince them that the hobby is a great alternative to gangs and dealing drugs on the streets. In fact, I often say (only partially tongue in cheek) that many parents would probably prefer their kids to deal drugs on the streets than take up the hobby because they're less likely to get into trouble with the law doing the latter.
Haha, too true. As a teacher I have to be super careful what I say to the pups because many take me literally! The UK rule sounds ridiculous. You've got to be kidding. Let's shoot the hobby right now and put it out of its misery, and then suffer the consequences for it! I've seen a 7 year old fly 3D heli with his dad standing beside him. We had him on the school oval here. Flew the whole routine, unbelievable. Could barely tie his own shoelaces. Engaging youth is the key to any activity. Got any big flying birds in NZ btw? I'm interested in what hangs out around our airports...we have no shortage of them around here and Brisbane. Cheers Bruce.
Great stuff... especially the nostaliga pictures. In reality, the old glow/balsa models were far more dangerous than today's modern foamies and drones (heavier, less reliable control links, etc). How strange it is that as the hobby has become increasingly safer it has also been the subject of ever-increasing and overbearing regulation. Something doesn't add up, does it? Thanks for the video and the increased awareness it will create.
The module's are inaccurate, the apps have a problem keep the data live and the range on most RIDs is less than half a mile. FAA is setting it up to fail. Xjet is right!
The argument for RID being forced down hobbyist throats has nothing to do with safety. This Furphy being pushed by the FAA and spreading around the world: stating; " due to increased sightings of drones by manned aircraft". Manned aircraft have enough trouble spotting another aircraft, let alone a 6" quadcopter, when aircraft are moving at 150 knots, plus. Pilots have a greater risk of a mid air with another aircraft. Everyone has a camera now, surveillance at airports is everywhere; there is plenty of footage of bird strikes, but no evidence of widespread misuse of drones around airports. The media have done a good job of scaremongering gov'ts & the public into believing that a drone will bring down an airliner anytime now! The cause of this legislation being pushed has nothing to do with safety. Its corporate and state interests that are firing this whole operation up. The likes of google, amazon, UPS delivery have paid off politicians & bureaucrats, wanting to charge for the right to fly. You can tell by the FAA posting videos vilifying all recreational UAS operations to scare the public into getting on their side. The RID ruling and lack of cooperation from the FAA with the hobbyists makes their intentions very clear. C.A.S.A, is about as sharp as bowling ball; they couldn't tell the difference between a 4" racing quad & Matrice 300, - have just done a, "cut & paste" from the FAA's regulations, which will be imposed on hobbyist in the near future. Their current "community consultation" discussion survey is just window dressing, they & the politicians have already made up their minds.
👍
Ah yes, here comes government to 'fix' everything, just like they did with the drone enthusiasts.
Is that inlet made of PlA?
Such a young looking Luke there. What a great article. Brings back many memories!!!

Hi Mueller Aviation - I'm moving to Brisbane next week - what's the story with these areas? Are they actually used or are they not fit for purpose?
G'day - the drones parks are still open as far as I know: www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/things-to-see-and-do/council-venues-and-precincts/parks/using-council-parks/launching-drones-from-council-parks

NO WAY am I sharing my patio with a snake, ANY snake. ... I'd chop it up for fishing bait.
Because Brisbane City Council actually spent the money on mowing lawns and maintaining our over grown parks
Good flight!

New to Brisbane , went to Lacy Rd park along Lacy Road, saw a dog run area, is there another entrance?.
Nice engine you have made. Recently I made one also but having difficulty as engine getting too hot. I am using only propane. Engine not able to self sustain. Can your engine run only on propane?
I guess he's not sharing. What species is that? It looks like a snake we have in Trinidad(southern Caribbean).
Green tree snake.
On closer inspection the ones we have vary I colour, some are a bit darker and others have a bit of yellow in them but they're all about the same size
What’s the cost?
Can u fish there?
Good job
can you ..tell me about this turbine Cumbustion chamber...daimeter length holes pattern .... compressor wheel size
You can look up all the details on the internet. It is a kit and has all the specs online. I don't have them on me sorry.
